With the 60th anniversary of Star Trek looming in September, and it being April, Starship Locations had left their home base in the San Jose area, Milpitas actually, for Roseville, outside Sacramento. Having arrived there intact with the producers, and none of the cast, they have yet to secure even so much as a writer's room team.
Well, they have produced the recent epic stories this past two years to celebrate, but they want to continue with another one. It just has to be a really good one. The premise would be not a trilogy, but a single feature set post Picard and post Legacy. It might even be Legacy.
They sort of did the Lower Decks meets Prodigy thing with the Starship meets the Transformers arc.
With the shake up at Paramount not really effecting On Location Kats, at all, because it's not really connected, it would have no sway on doing a follow up. Bad Robot has also left, but that too doesn't matter.
It will probably be a smaller story with a bigger message. It could take place on a devastated world but have no space weapon.
Putting the crew out of their comfort zone does a number of things. They don't need to be on a bridge. They can move about on a planet. It would be very different from all the villain of the week stories.
Fans do not want another Khan story and not another origin story. They want to go forward. Maybe they do not want it so far it's like the new Academy set in 3195, but in the present.
They have not begun work on a script, but Kal Kat is prolific as gangbusters, and will surely come up with a good idea in a week, and then there can be a shooting schedule. They just don't have the studio up and running.
If you set a story in say 2408, right after the others, or in 2414m a little later, it would not interfere with anything. Currently it is 2403-2404.
In a meeting with Marx Cards for a distance, they discussed the idea of a new film, and that it would be nice to do a story where the working class Trek characters from the other films don't have a universal threat, and just have to go to a fun planet, or a decimated planet, and find a more natural disaster to attend to, and then go home at the end.
Yes, obviously we're done with zombies.
It could be less let's go blow stuff up, and more let's think things through so we don't have to, they said.
They even toyed with the idea of returning to the Maquis planet Sisko wrecked to get them off of it in that DS9 episode, and that's the planet, but it probably won't end up being that planet.
Another idea was to go to the closest Federation colony, Centauri, and just od a close to home caper on a planet there, so Kat can complain about how it's not the three body problem there, and the system is stable. Ha.
No Avatars either. Ha.
Sounds promising.
